A word came 'round, the other day,
As strange as strange can be, they say.
"Selcouth!" quoth I, with puzzled frown,
"The oddest word in any town!"
It means that things are queer and rare,
Yet, is itself a something there!

A close-up photo of an old, leather-bound book, probably a dictionary. The cover is worn and textured, suggesting age.

Sorry, I haven't been around. Needed a break from socials, but hadn't planned to drop off like that. I've missed you!

Feeling recharged! 🎉Even had the energy to create a new new blog post:

Obsolete words we need to bring back

Blog post teaser image, a screen capture of the top of the blog post with the title "Obsolete words we need to bring back" at the top, on the right an image of a tree losing leaves that are actually alphabet letters falling to the ground in piles. The opening two paragraphs of the blog post in the center: "I love words. D’uh. But modern words don’t always do it for me, y’know? Language evolves and it should, but modern language is so… cut-down? Fast? Efficient maybe. And in that efficiency, I feel we’ve lost a lot of that juicy, delicious, sumptuous description that used to be part of everyday language. Sure, it could be flowery and took time to get to the point, but maybe that’s just it. We move so quickly now, everything goes so fast, we don’t communicate in that way any longer. Personal opinion, of course, but I think we’re the less for it. In that evolutionary cutting down, rafts of amazing descriptive archaic words have gone by the wayside. Some of them must have been mistakes, because they perfectly capture certain concepts in a way we no longer have a description for. Why ever did we leave them behind?"

A dude commented on the fact that I used the word “purview” when speaking to someone, and wondered why my tech skills aren’t better. Vocabulary and tech have little to do with one another. #oddthoughts #wordsmatter #archaicwords
