#Dornie Bridge which connected Ardelve with Dornie in Wester Ross, 1970s. The bridge opened on this day in 1940, replacing a ferry service. The bridge itself was replaced by a wider structure in 1991 and was subsequently dismantled

Every week I pass Eilean Donan castle and even in November the car park is full of foreign tourists because of Outlander.
It was built in the 1920s and isn’t the original castle.
I don’t even bother to stop and take a picture.
However in Ardelve, nearby is Manuela’s wee bakery …

#Dornie, late-1930s. The lorries were owned by William G. Finlay of Ardelve and were used during the construction of Dornie Bridge. The main contractor was William Tawse of Aberdeen, with local workers and vehicles subcontracted.

We stayed in Ardelve, just down the road A couple of years ago. We just love the west coast of Scotland, Islay especially.

My family are from Ardelve and when they were kids before the bridge, my dad used to go and "help" the long-suffering ferrymen. The 2nd photo was how you summoned the ferry, and you can see the castle before it was rebuilt in the last photo (sorry to dash any illusions that it's ancient!)

When I was passing Eilean Donan today I was sorely tempted to stop and take a picture for you…. but I can’t…I just cannot take a picture of that pseudo castle.
