#Ardnacrusha
I was at Ardnacrusha, the hydroelectric power station. Big pipes! Dials! Buttons! Switches!

Ooh. This is what was going on when I was there last in August.

Organizing a swim tomorrow and in a mad turn of events, the esb are turning off the turbines at ardnacrusha for a couple of hours. I feel all powerful now. Kneel before Nah!

Comparing ardnacrusha to the Hoover Dam…?!? Notions.

I haven't even thought of Ardnacrusha to delay, y'know...

What's even more embarrassing is the legacy of ardnacrusha looming over us. Like we used up all the entirety of our "trees planted for shade for future generations" budget for a 1000 years.

Our earliest (non green) governments demonstrated level 2 ambition and built ardnacrusha but it seems that while they recognised there was much to do they also recognised the urgent need to prioritise, start somewhere and just get it done

I recently discovered that Ardnacrusha was probably responsible for the introduction of the Bank Vole into Ireland. Since then I have been reading up more about them.

Last year (photos 👇) we took the Ardnacrusha tour and I said to myself, "My Dad would *love* this!". So today I went back and brought him along and, reader, he *did* love it 😀
Yesterday we got to take the tour of the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power plant 😀 A phenomenal experience! I've been meaning to take this tour for years & it did not disappoint! Say what you want about this rebellion or that rising, or one war or another, but *this* is where modern Ireland was born.

O'Briensbridge, County Clare, has stood at the heart of 500 years of Irish history. This aerial view shows the 12-arched bridge spanning the River Shannon, Lough Derg beyond, and the canal built in the 1920s to supply water to the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power station.

That’s sad news, and it’s also a shame that it’s more than a decade later and RTE still don’t know what to do with Moydrum.

It played its part in the birth of the modern Irish state (along with the development of the Ardnacrusha power station) and should be respected as such.

I was back in Ardnacrusha today, speaking about the history of the station at a @deptcee event about renewable electricity generation, transport and industry - really special to be able to do so in the turbine hall, which was in the middle of a 25-year service (long-term thinking!)

As Ireland assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister Darragh O’Brien today set out a vision for Ireland to become an electrostate.

I am currently having a complete meltdown over being unable to *choose* a date to go on a tour of Ardnacrusha. I'll be going alone so it's not even that I have to loop other people in but that it's Monday to Friday. I have to pick a random day (my birthday is unavailable). I have paralysis.
