wanna feel old? armv7 is retro

All Elon had to do was go back to running Tesla and spending more time with his son Internet Explorer IA-32/ARMv7

Dug up this antique. Still works!

dbgdscr.moe is a registerable, non-registered domain name

(MOE is an actual field defined by ARMv7-M Architecture Reference Manual)

got bored and wrote a kexec implementation for armv7 iOS in 100% rust :3

In case your DM250 ran OpenBSD too fast, I made armv7 able to boot from a softraid disk so you can have a fully encrypted eMMC root.

I lied I don't want sex. Put your clothes back on. We're going to read the ARM Architecture Reference Manual ARMv7-A and ARMv7-R Edition

I ported enough of NetBSD's armv7 MP code to OpenBSD to do a 'make -j4 build' on my DM250X.

It brings a full system compilation from ~5.1 days to ~3.5. Compiling LLVM is still multiple days :(

Did a "soft" rework of how graphics in my game are handled, from tile sources to an atlas. More than 128 sprites exported and reimported. Took me 4 days! Saved a single Draw call lol

#Defold #gamedev #indiedev #indiegamedev #solodev #pixelart

Did a test to see a difference in size... 4.44MB!!!

Between all my computers/tablets (not consoles) these are the architectures I have around (for main CPU instruction set architecture; ascending order of release):

6502
TMS9900
Z80
6809
x86
68k
IA-32
PowerPC
ARM6
x86-64
ARMv7-A
ARMv8-A
This error message in Steam is amazing, because it's from back in 2019 when support of IA-32 (Intel's main architecture from 1985 to late 2000s) finally ended on Macs.

But... since late 2020 Macs use Apple Silicon which can't run Bootcamp (as the message suggests).

Rust (and Slint) on a jailbroken Kindle.

Sverre jailbreaks his Kindle, cross-compiles Rust + Slint for ARMv7, slaps a GUI on the e-ink screen and touch panel like a madlad.

why would unnamed arcade rhythm game force me to reverse ARMv7 code *again* except this time it's worse because it's userland lagdroid stuff instead of nice pretty boot code like on the Wii and iPod classic and NOKIA Lumia 800 like i'm used to.

OK, so here's a few words about different kinds of timers, why SYSTICK is good for what it was designed to do and crap for the modern tickless world, and how I implemented embassy-time for the Armv7 Generic Timer.

for ref, the ARMv7-A ARM is only 2700 pages so it bloats a further 5000 pages between ARMv7's spec and ARMv9's 32-bit spec

This V8 upgrade was particularly difficult and overdue but had to be done for v24, and it finally landed 🎉 Now v24 can finally progress after missing the April 23 deadline github.com/nodejs/node/...

Some explanations about why it took so long from the parts I know (@targos.dev probably knows more)
deps: update V8 to 13.6 by targos · Pull Request #58070 · nodejs/node
Same as #57753, without compatibility patches for MSVC and armv7. Notable changes: RegExp.escape Float16Array Atomics.pause WebAssembly Memory64 Explicit resource management Error.isError

but hey, now I have a working GICv3 driver, and hence can show my Armv7-R / Armv8-R AArch32 interrupt handler is working.

I've started publishing semi-daily updates on my website of my hacking on the Pomera DM250 to try to get OpenBSD running on it. First up is getting u-boot updated and working enough to be able to boot OpenBSD's armv7 EFI loader, then I guess it's endless driver porting.

#DietPi v10.5 is here!

A long overdue update to dietpi-config adds full support for the modern @raspberrypi.com graphics and camera drivers and APIs. And the #RustDesk client is now available for ARMv7 SBCs.

(It took so long mostly because it's running in a emulated armv7 docker on a WSL)
