Seeing my older #DnD artwork being appreciated today by folks more than a decade after I first drew it is like opening an unexpected gift and thank you card all in one. 😊 #ForgottenReams

Want to know what it takes to illustrate a children's book?
Art takes time.
Here's my substack about sustained effort, and the humility of compromise in art markets.

The HARD reality of illustrating a children’s book
I have a note card taped to my monitor, where I’ve written a quote from Nora Ephron.

This painting might look like it came together quickly, but it actually took over 3 months to finish! Yikes!
Sometimes art moves at its own pace, and that’s okay. Every brushstroke, every layer, every moment of doubt.

She walks alone—
two sabers, one purpose.
Light in her heart, war in her eyes.
Shoutout to osaka momma japanese goods for the plug on this fig.

Instead of using the Studio Ghibli filter, I bought actual Ghibli films, like The Wind Rises, which has a 4-second scene that took a human artist 15 months to draw. Respect the craft.
