The English name ‘ghost pepper’ for Assamese ভোট জলকীয়া bʰůt zålokia is probably a mistranslation of Assamese ভোট bʰůt ‘Tibetan (Sikkimese, Bhutanese, etc.)’ (= Sanskrit ভোট- bʰōṭa-) as ভূত bʰut ‘ghost’ (= Sanskrit ভূত- bʰūta-). :)

Why it’s called “Tibetan pepper” I don’t know, but my guess is that ...
