#Auchenorrhyncha
Onderfamilie Flatinae. Maar dan stopt mijn zoektocht. Als iemand het weet...

Cercopoidea: Spittlebug superfamily (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha). Nymphs create foam 'cuckoo spit' from xylem sap. Pests like Mahanarva fimbriolata damage sugarcane in Brazil. ~3,000 spp. worldwide. #Entomology #Biodiversity 🧪

#ElkeDagEenInsect

Turkish entomologist Ayla Kalkandelen would have been 86 years old today. She specialized in the study of Auchenorrhyncha, and particularly in the "leafhoppers" or Cicadellidae which can act as vectors for plant disease.

Auchenorrhyncha are the unsung heroes of biodiversity :) I'm falling in love with cicadellids in particular.

Leafhoppers and cicadas have highly similar eye placements because they are evolutionary cousins belonging to the same insect suborder, Auchenorrhyncha.

Another banger from Peter Bräunig. His papes are always crazy and understated. Same with Hans Joachim Pflüger. There is just something special insect neuroethologists with umlauts. Bässler is another example.
