It's because the used car dealership is in cahoots with the mechanics, the autoshops, the spare parts dealers, etc. They all benefit from you buying a shitty car cause now they get to sell you stuff to maintain that used shitty car. if they are aggressive/predatory it shows how fragile the system is

I paid $26 for a headlight change on my car today.
Last year some doof bucket charged me $50.
I do have spare headlights myself but the manual scared me out of changing them & of course the autoshops have me buy theirs. I don't mind that or the markup - Im annoyed that a shop I trusted charged $50
