Texas-based company Saronic has unveiled the Marauder Medium Unmanned Surface Vessel (MUSV), a fully autonomous or remotely supervised ship designed for both defense and commercial operations. Remarkably, the vessel went from initial design to on-water trials in under a year, a pace unmatched in American shipbuilding since World War II. The Marauder can operate at speeds over 25 knots and has a 5,400-nautical-mile range. Its modular 150-metric-ton payload capacity allows for ISO container integration, supporting logistics, research, and surveillance missions. Saronic plans to produce up to 20 Marauders annually by the end of 2026, leveraging its integrated Franklin, Louisiana shipyard that consolidates design, manufacturing, and autonomy development under one roof. The company employs modern aluminum shipbuilding techniques, modular subassemblies, and optimized production sequencing to accelerate construction. In addition to hardware innovations, Saronic has developed an advanced software-based fleet intelligence platform, offering real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and remote intervention for operators. This approach enables rapid, repeatable manufacturing of autonomous vessels suitable for diverse missions, including persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). The second Marauder hull is already progressing 25% faster than the first, demonstrating the efficiency of Saronic's integrated production system.
