Michel Barnier says the 'door is open' to the UK rejoining the EU.

That the UK could join the EU without adopting the Euro, just as we did before.

But what is not negotiable is the EU Single Market - no cherry picking.

UK can rejoin EU without adopting Euro — but only on one condition, Barnier says - Freedom of Movement is "not negotiable".

Fine by me - in fact, its one of the main benefits as far as I'm concerned, so what are we waiting for?

Anyway, back to usual business, and "this has been confirmed by Michel Barnier" should read "Michel Barnier has given his personal opinion on the terms for the UK to rejoim, which may or may not correspond to that of others"

Michel Barnier says Britain could avoid having to join the single currency, but free movement is non-negotiable Good morning. Andy Burnham is back from the Commonwealth summit, but the Commons is on mini-recess until Tuesday, and there is not much in the political diary for today. But Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, will be holding a press conference, which means reporters will have the chance to ask him why his eve-of-poll “I don’t go with the consensus that Trump is going to get smashed” prediction turned out to be so wrong. Another recent claim from Farage has been that, if the UK were to reapply to join the EU, it would have to sign up to the euro. This allegation was never taken particularly seriously by people who actually know how the EU works; while new members are theoretically obliged to sign up to the euro, six of the 27 current members do not use it, one has a formal opt-out (Denmark), and there is plenty of precedent to suggest the EU would easily accept a fudge giving the UK an opt-out. But what is, and what remains unnegotiable, is the condition to join the single market. There is no negotiation possible. No possible negotiation on any kind of cherry-picking or the single market ‘a la carte’. The UK knows quite perfectly the condition to be part of and to rejoin the single market and the customs union. But what is, and what remains unnegotiable, is the condition to join the single market. Anyone who thinks Barnier hasn't been briefed by the EU on this and given the go-ahead to make such remarks is being intentionally naive.

💥💥💥 Confirmation yet again that the UK can rejoin the EU without joining the Euro (unless we want to), but that we must accept Freedom of Movement within the Single Market.

For some people who support rejoining the EU, the possibility of having to adopt the euro is still a stumbling block, so it's great to hear that Michel Barnier is the latest in a long line of EU voices saying that adopting the euro is not a requirement for rejoining the EU.

I keep saying Barnier is really *completely* out of the EU loop these days but no one in Blighty wants to hear it ...

Britain could negotiate a return to the EU without adopting the euro, says former EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier.

🚨 Britain could rejoin the European Union without abandoning the pound, according to Michel Barnier. But there's a catch that could reignite one of the biggest arguments of the Brexit referendum.

With all respect to Michel Barnier, it is a bit like interviewing David Davis, Dominic Raab or David Frost on UK EU policies.

REALLY good to see @michelbarnier.bsky.social alive to Burnham’s cherry-picking agenda. It’s obvious Burnham would move the Alps & Andes to avoid Freedom of Movement. Glad Barnier has put it in the *Non-Negotiable* category from the start so we can see when Burnham starts negotiating in bad faith.
