To get things started: BBEdit 16.1 is out now. This is the first (and a big) feature update building on the 16.0 major upgrade. If you're using BBEdit 16 this is a free and recommended update. There are some big new features, some refinements to both new and old features, fixes for reported issues…

Anyway, I should probably switch to writing in Ellipsus or maybe offline entirely (imagine that) in some text editor. I use BBEdit a lot for simple text, but that's not right for fic. And though I have Scrivener it seems too complicated for what I'm doing (or I just need to learn it, obvs).

@lemay The cool kids are listening to CDs again. Dare to dream that editing HTML with BBEdit is next

I was so snooty about Dreamweaver. My first job was all hand-coded HTML (pre-tables, initially!) in vi. Even BBEdit came later…

Since WordPerfect I never fell in love with a wordprocessor, I default to Google Docs for convenience.

I like plain text editors over rich so BBEdit is my daily driver on my Mac. I liked TextPad on windows.

I do a lot of copying styled text and pasting it into BBEdit to strip formatting.

See also also, BBEdit. Yes, this is an arcane way to edit epub files, but if you drag the file to the BBEdit icon, it’ll open all the source folders and you can direct-edit the CSS and HTML (if you’re into that).

I could be tempted to go back to just editing and uploading HTML files via BBEdit. Old school. Initial setup would be a heavier lift, but after that it’d be a breeze to post.

I built my first personal homepage on my Mac using BBEdit 3.1.1 (probably) my freshman year of college and served it using WebSTAR. I couldn't turn off my Mac, but instead turned down the monitor, in case someone wanted to visit overnight.

The page went dark over summer break.

Der beste Texteditor ist und bleibt BBEdit. 😎 Wenn man daneben noch Xcode oder VS Code nutzt, ist es allerdings reichlich lästig, markierten Text in BBEdit immer mit der umständlichen…

Are you not using BBEdit? 😱

For real though, I had 1 use case where BBEdit was the only editor that worked like a champ: manually searching in a 3GB malformed csv.
Most editors crashed on opening the file, but only BBEdit could search through it.

Have used BBEdit for nearly three decades now - can confirm about it handling large files well. It is also rock solid - I have a bunch of unsaved open files as a kind of clipboard and I've never lost anything in all that time.
