“Heat is more harmful and prevalent in the Downtown Eastside because there are fewer plants, less shade and little to no access to air conditioning

The Downtown Eastside can get as hot as 49 degrees Celsius, and that’s incredibly dangerous,”

I should mention that BBC TV just started reporting on so-called natural disasters as climate change-related recently — the result of Britain's horrible heat wave this summer. But it was 5 years ago that more than 600 people died in the #BCHeatDome, & that didn't motivate the CBC to change policy.

5 years after the #BCHeatDome, workers are still under-protected by heat protection regulations that haven't been updated in 20 years.

Thankfully, WorksafeBC is reviewing these regulations, and our latest report lays out recommendations to better protect workers from extreme heat.

Great question. This should be legislated at the provincial level but Eby is weak & #VanRE dev funded so start at civic level

"WHEN do we decide ensuring rental homes, stratas and apartments that shouldn't kill, or permanently weaken their occupants in heat events?"

Great idea I see an apartment that is changing all the windows where they could've used an air conditioner and now it's gonna be very very difficult to do so

BC should have laws against landlords allowing people to boil alive in their apt/condo laws

@seanorr.bsky.social given 600 people died in BC’s last heat dome and we’re not talking about the damage that other people got, if/when there is another #BCHeatDome where temperatures do not cool down at night, will the city of Vancouver open the cooling centres 24/7 to reduce deaths? #vanpoli
