We have work to do, BC. The only left of centre left was the Greens. The NDP sold out with a leader who refused to listen to the UBCM, his own people and the people of the province. Dark days are ahead.
Plan, organize, fight to protect 2SLGBTQ fam
and our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

UBCM congratulates premier-designate Lorne Doerkson and the Conservative Party of BC on their election victory. We are ready to work together on complex issues like housing affordability, street disorder and emergency preparedness.

Andrew took his analysis straight from a press release from the Union of B.C. Municipalities, which does good work but has its own reasons for framing things this way.

Incidentally, the UBCM is looking for a new President, Second Vice President, and Vancouver rep.

They all lost on Saturday.

Odd of UBCM to chime in on this, no?

Sarrah is beginning her third term as mayor of Fraser Lake and has served in various positions on the UBCM board since 2020. Sarrah's leadership experience and commitment to local government will serve our membership well, and we look forward to supporting her in this role.

Thanks Justin. Yes, the numbers I cited came from UBCM. What's your thought on why their numbers are different from yours?

@vangreens.bsky.social And if you get pushback on #CROW's civilian only mobile mental health and addictions & crisis team?

In 2021 UBCM passed a resolution for a civilian only mobile mental health crisis Regional Model for Mobile Crisis Response Car Program #vanpoli

Even with your numbers, 75 percent of incumbents still won. That means for every 20 incumbents, one fewer won this time than last time. A dip, yes, but UBCM I think is right to question whether that is "terrible".

To "lies, damn lies and statistics" we may need to add charts.
October 25, 2026 at 5:47 PM
"This year 22.5% of mayors and 47.2% of regional district directors were acclaimed, bolstering the overall figures for incumbent success."

According to UBCM, "the success of incumbents across the province remains high. This year 70.6% of municipal candidates and 81.3% of regional district candidates were successful in their bid for re-election."

A really interesting @ubcm.bsky.social analysis on the recent local elections in BC

#bcpoli #vanpoli

"Over the past three elections, Council attrition/turnover rates consistently come in at around a 50% turnover."

Local Government election statistics
British Columbia’s 2026 local government elections saw a substantial turnover of elected officials, and a modest rebound in voter participation. Province-wide figures provided by CivicInfo show that t...

Thanks Michael. Tough night for OneCity but that’s the “perk” of downballot voting. I’m pretty disappointed than YIMBYism is on the back foot in Saanich, Vancouver, Victoria, and elsewhere.

I look forward to working with OC, COPE, and VanGreens on municipal ranked ballots at UBCM.

It is! It’s why I’m keen on watching municipal election results this evening. Should reveal a lot about attitudes towards housing. The question remains: more nimbyism or yimbyism?
Perhaps a new vote on single stair apartment reform, this year’s UBCM conference will at least reveal who’s educated…

💯 I sat through a similar debate she participated in adjacent UBCM. Male moderator (a global news guy) and Mayor Brad West in particular were egregiously disrespectful.
