I think the carnivore diet is concerning too! I wonder how it affects the way the body processes the food! I also find the amount of people switching to a “raw diet” quite disturbing… there are so many warnings out there trying to deter people from these eating habits too. #beh353 @beh353

A diet that has been a very popular trend recently is the “carnivore diet” where people only eat animal-sourced foods, and cut out all plant based items. It makes me wonder what effects on your cholesterol does this diet have? How will it affect the way your body produces vitamins? #beh353 @beh353

I didn’t realize noodles could be made from so many different ingredients besides wheat. I also think this reveals how noodles are an important part of many different cultures and cuisines around the world. @beh353.bsky.social @beh353 #beh353

I think the strictness of the diet could make it difficult for people to follow consistently, especially if they have to maintain ketosis to see possible benefits. It makes me wonder if the potential benefits are worth how restrictive the diet can be. @beh353.bsky.social @beh353 #beh353

I looked more into the paleo diet, which focuses on foods like meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts while avoiding grains, dairy, and processed foods. Is the paleo diet actually healthier than a balanced diet that includes all food groups? @beh353.bsky.social @beh353 #beh353

@beh353.bsky.social #beh353 As a busy student, I agree. I eat whatever I can, when I can. I feel my best when my hunger needs are satiated and I feel as though that is the most important part of a healthy diet.

@beh353.bsky.social #beh353 I have seen some extreme carnivore diet practices on social media. I have also seen people transition from carnivore to completely raw diets, which is concerning. In my opinion, I think a carnivore diet doesn't allow someone to meet their overall food group requirements.

@beh353.bsky.social #beh353 I recently learned there have been studies done with keto diets and it's effects on patients with mental health disorders. There have been some positive preliminary findings, but keto is a very difficult diet to follow and it needs to be followed strictly to see effects.

I think this is a great reminder that how you eat is just as important as what you eat because things like our state of mind or nervous system strongly affects digestion. Mindful eating is something I'm working on improving, too. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This was probably one of the strangest nutrition findings I came across. I was surprised that adding carbs from Oreos had such a big effect on LDL in someone following keto. It made me wonder how much the type of diet itself affects cholesterol levels. @konsyse.com @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
A man with high LDL cholesterol due to being under keto diet ate 12 Oreo cookies a day for 16 days and saw his LDL cholesterol level drop from a very high 384 mg/dL to 111 mg/dL.
Man on Keto Diet Fed with Oreos Showed Lower LDL Cholesterol — Konsyse
Two researchers wanted to know how adding a little carb affects the cholesterol levels of certain individuals on a low-carb diet.

This is such a strong, important statement. Fad diets may be effective, but you need to follow them correctly. Just following diet trends and expecting them to work isn’t the best way to do it. We should always focus on what works for our bodies and evidence-based dieting. #beh353
Social media spreads nutrition myths, turning fad diets into identity-based movements. Quick-fix trends fuel strong diet loyalties, making evidence-based eating harder. Seek balanced, science-backed advice (#eatrightPRO) #Nutrition #Misinformation theconversation.com/social-media...

Hi Seongchae, great post! I have also tried intermittent fasting, and I think it’s pretty effective in the short term, but after a while, if you don’t eat enough during your eating window, it can lead to overeating. #beh353

I researched keto diets a bit more, and it was interesting to learn that the diet consists of 70-80% fat, 10-20% protein, and only 5-10% carbohydrates. For me, in particular, this would be a very hard diet to follow, haha. #beh353

I've used intermittent fasting before when I wanted to lose weight quickly, and it did feel effective in the short term. But I wonder if doing it long term could backfire by making you feel overly hungry and eventually lead to overeating. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

It was interesting to read what you learned. I am curious if such a diet is sustainable in the long term seeing as fats are prioritized as a means for weight loss but could have detrimental effects on health later down the line. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

After learning about Fad diets this week, those seem to address the “what you eat” in the topic of nutrition. These mindfulness tips address the “how you eat” and I agree that slowing down and being present about the plate in front of you is also important! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I’ve heard of paleo diets in passing and checked it out. Stands for paleolithic diet, referring to early human lifestyles! Question: if peanuts (a legume) can be found naturally in the environment like fruits/veggies, why exclude them based on modern categories/naming? @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I thought it was interesting that some popular diets, like keto, were originally created for medical purposes and not for weight loss like many people use them for today. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I found the keto diet interesting; I didn’t realize how restrictive it is since you eat few carbohydrates and get most of your calories from fat. I wonder how realistic it is for someone to follow the keto diet long-term while still getting all the nutrients they need. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I chose this because it shows why we shouldn’t accept claims about popular diets just because they come from a study. Looking at how the research was designed and whether all the results were reported is just as important as the headline. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Here's an interesting new study of keto vs. Mediterranean vs. low-fat-planty diets.

And it was pre-registered.

Alas, the finding they trumpet wasn't pre-registered, and many pre-registered outcomes weren't reported.

That undermines my confidence.

That’s what stood out to me too. Cutting out basically all plant foods seems really restrictive, especially since they’re such a major source of fiber. It makes me wonder how sustainable the carnivore diet is long term. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I looked into intermittent fasting because I always hear that it’s great for weight loss. I was surprised to learn that it may not lead to more weight loss than traditional dietary advice. It made me wonder why it has become so popular if the benefits aren’t clearly better.@beh353.bsky.social#beh353

We often associate certain foods with certain times of day, but breakfast doesn't have to include only specific foods. I like this perspective a lot - more flexibility can make it easier to build enjoyable and nutritious meals! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I thought this was interesting too! It shows how a fad diet can sometimes encourage healthy food choices, even though the reasons used to promote it may not be supported by science. It's a good reminder to look at why a diet claims to work! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I chose to research carnivore diets because a friend from my dance team followed one. What surprised me most was how restrictive it is, especially eliminating most/if not all, plant foods. It made me wonder how someone following it gets enough fiber. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
