The race is on to re-home 120 ex-commercial laying hens in Didcot before February 8th. The British Hen Welfare Trust is appealing for would-be kind hearted chicken keepers to come forward by 4pm Friday and give the hens a chance at a free range retirement.

BHWT don't normally have any problems rehoming hens. Most are allocated well ahead of the rescue as people reserve them online. If this isn't happening then it must be due to the continuing bird flu lockdown. People will be reluctant to bring new hens onto their property and risk passing it on.

It was Fresh Start For Hens today who do. Wry similar mass rehoming. The next BHWT rehoming anywhere near was next weekend and poor Brian was lonely after losing his mate on Wednesday.

I was very sad to lose Pakora a few weeks ago. She was a pretty easy-going chicken, loved a bit of wellie-pecking, loved to come upstairs and get treats, and was often seen giving Perseus's face a good clean. ❤️
