Liliana Bloodguard, Meliantha's partner (they're not married yet), absolutely hates horror novels (she's lived and kind of is from one), but her favorite book is "Lady Coventry's Lovers", an erotic novel of a noblewoman and her chambermaid. And the gardeness. And the laundress. (Lili's just gay.)

I have written a few good #BookReviews on here, but it might be time for a #DNF & an explanation of why. (I’m only doing this here because of my very limited views… Unlikely for it to spread too far & hurt the author’s feelings.) I picked this up on a whim, because I thought it was more historical—
The cover of the book has a floating crown with a dagger through the center of it. The dagger has a red gem at the cross guard, as well as a red rose and thorny stem wrapped around the blade. There is also a white rose and white leaves behind the main objects. “BLOODGUARD” by Cecy Robson Back cover of “BLOODGUARD” by Cecy Robson: Framed by delicate illustrations of swords and stylized roses are printed words saying, “ENTER THE ARENA. SEIZE TWO WEAPONS. NOW TRY TO SURVIVE.” A black and white illustration of what looks like a Spartan warrior. The only color is the splatter of red blood on the shoulder paladin and forearm cameras of the lightly armored figure wearing a crested helmet and holding a spear. Words on the inside flap read, “ONE HUNDRED YEARS. TENS OF THOUSANDS OF GLADIATORS. AND TODAY, ONLY ONE WILL RISE... Everything in the Kingdom of Arrow is a lie. Leith of Grey thought coming to this new land and volunteering to fight in the gladiator arena-vicious, bloodthirsty tournaments where only the strongest survive—would earn him enough gold to save his dying sister. He thought there was nothing left to lose. He was wrong—and they took everything. His hope. His freedom. His very humanity. All Leith has left is his battle-scarred body, fueled by rage and hardened from years of fighting for the right to live another day. Then Leith meets Maeve, an elven royal who is everything he despises. Everything he should hate. Until the alluring princess offers him the one thing he needs most: a chance to win the coveted title of Bloodguard— and his freedom. But in a kingdom built on secrets and lies, hope doesn't come cheap. Nor will his ultimate revenge...” Back inside flap shows a young white woman with dark shoulder length hair smiling, wearing a floral top. The words read, “CECY ROBSON is an international and multi-award-winning author of over twenty-seven character-driven novels. A registered nurse of twenty-one years, Cecy spends her free time creating magical worlds, heart-stopping romance, and young adult adventure. After receiving two RITA® nominations, the Maggie Award, the Award of Excellence, and a National Reader's Choice Award nomination, Cecy can still be found laughing, crying, and cheering on her characters as she pens her next story. cecyrobson.com”

I drew the picture, but the two characters don't belong to me.

Rei by BloodGuard.

Lucky by Lucky.

Tera Byte by Café.

A huge thank you to them.
I hope I did everything right.
And didn't upset anyone.
I don't know yet whether to finish it or leave it as is.

Next up for the character designs, meet Endan Hizutomi!

He's Captain of the Bloodguard, and Rhys's personal bodyguard.

I had a very solid idea of how he dressed. I just needed to figure out whether I wanted him to be a baby-faced idol type, or a rugged samurai type.

You can see where I landed.
A sketchbook spread for the character design of Endan, from Dreams in Blood (coming August 21, 2026). On the first right side is a digital overlay of the final design, done in full color, along with a "blood sword."

“Your creators are going to crash,” Bluestreak said, not even bothering to hide his grin behind his crystal chalice. Mirage could never afford to be so naked with his expressions in public. The carefully choreographed slight lift at the corner of his mouth, however, was genuine. “I finished my trial period with him before boarding the train across the Wastes.” “It’s already final then?” Bluestreak whistled in awe. “And the first thing you did was defy your carefully curated travel schedule to come to my fundraiser?” “Sideswipe is more than adequate to handle my security,” Mirage said. “You saw how innovative he was arranging me an enforcer escort from the city?” “Me and practically the entire planet!” Bluestreak said. “You never come to my crystal garden galas — now Prowl tells me Vos’ Noble Houses are scrambling to get here, you’ve made it the party of the year to be seen at.” And a security nightmare. To the side of Bluestreak’s left shoulder, Prowl almost looked like he was scowling as he spoke into his comms. He was certainly watching Sideswipe’s every move just behind Mirage’s left shoulder. Mirage sipped from his chalice as he leaned in toward Bluestreak as he whispered, “I find I’m quite eager to return to Iacon to show him off — a Bloodguard of his caliber, as a Pits acquisition, the implications alone…” Mirage didn’t have to finish his sentence, Bluestreak was already nodding. “Not a trace of an accent in his Praxian, and I’ve never seen a Pits Acquisition so…” “Fluent in high class social and economic subtext?” “I was going to say poised.” “Oh, he can be brutish when I want him to be,” Mirage said, a conspiring grin on his face. “The Pits are in there. He took me to a back alley dive bar —“ “He did not!” “Hauled me back to the hotel over his shoulder.” “Prowl would never!” It wasn’t judgement in Bluestreak’s tone, but understanding. No one knew the feeling of having a non-Legacy Bloodguard exceed standards better than him. Prowl was a State Assignment, and his capabilities were within the top two percent of Legacy bloodline standards. To have found a Legacy level Bloodguard overlooked within the Pits — at a discount no less — Mirage was going to flaunt Sideswipe at his creator’s judgmental dinners for the rest of their lives.
