Blops2 is peak CoD because it manages to toe the line of being the most absurd thing in the world while also taking itself seriously
degeneration of CoD campaign plots is pretty striking, especially as the budget and technical polish of these things increases. Never great art, but originals were competent Michael Bay type stuff, latest ones feel written by 14 year olds whose entire exposure to non-video game media is TV tropes.

I think when trying to do media analysis of Blops2, people also overindex on Cordis Die being inspired by OWS. Not because it isn't (OWS is very clearly the primary inspiration) but because the secondary inspiration is the Arab Spring

i cant get over the feeling of joy playing re-released cod blops2 like a decade hasn't gone by. playing this on a console that doesn't have cheaters (yet) and just havin fun with the lads is something i didn't know i needed until this week. actually fantastic. i am now fixed

yeah this game is trying to do a 2020s version of the Blops2 storyline and the Blops3 mindfuck stuff but it's failing utterly at both because there's like no setup for either of them
Played through the whole campaign last night and I am very glad I got it via Gamepass, it's trying to be three different campaigns simultaneously and it fails at all of them

I think the problem there is that they damn near got their heads bitten off for mostly accurately portraying Russian war crimes in Syria and Chechnya in MW19 and decided "lol fuck this, we're never doing real shit again" despite the fact that it had the most lauded campaign of anything since Blops2

Old CoD (which is a bit of a misnomer because CoD has had SBMM as early as Blops2) thrived on there being literal braindead zombies in your match to give you the power trip of kill streaks. you can't have an entire lobby of people getting kill streaks.

Blops2 was probably the last truly great cod on almost every level. Incredibly well written campaign, music by Trent Reznor. Revamped zombies, some of the best fps mp i ever played
