*throwing a senator into the chum bucket* yeah we get these guys as bycatch all the time. Not good for much except feeding gulls
*shooting a CEO with a harpoon gun* it’s sad but necessary. If we don’t keep their population in check they’ll destroy the environment

Strong fisheries and healthy salmon runs are the lifeblood of Alaska’s economy, communities, and people.

I’m in this race to restore abundance, reduce bycatch, and take on the Lower 48 factory trawlers that are hurting our Alaska way of life.
Opinion: Alaska’s salmon collapse is no coincidence
Decades of trawl bycatch have taken a toll on Western Alaska salmon while meaningful protections remain out of reach.

Referred to as “bycatch” by the fishing industry, animals who are unintentionally caught are usually tossed back into the ocean, often dead or too injured to survive.

Choose plant-based options for them.

Banning factory trawling is the first step towards reviving our fisheries and bringing abundance back to Alaska.

That recovery won't happen if factory trawlers are still destroying our ocean habitats and catching metric tons of bycatch.

What you see here is industry propaganda 👺They like to give you the impression they put back their ‘bycatch’ alive. Most bycatch is dead in the nets or will die later. #Fishing = #MassMurder & #Ecocide => #MassExtinction #StopFishing #StopEcocide #LiveVegan avoid extinction 🙏

Lots of bycatch from last night’s moth traps, which included this lovely Striped Ladybird (I think?).
A new one for me.

this is good news it works and is actually put into practice.
How new fishing tech can reduce bycatch of turtles and other creatures
Specially equipped nets can help save some species, while allowing fisherman to still catch others.

I've been blocked by people who think I'm a bot, but I find that entirely understandable. Anti-scraper culture is a very good thing and I'm cool with being occasional bycatch of that.
