This is what libraries and backlist sales are for. At least 60% of books I read are by dead authors. I do worry about what happens to my 3,000 books when I die. Some are worth a fair amount, and all are worth reading.

My first thought was Nora Roberts, due to her huge backlist.
Bradbury wrote so many crime stories Hard Case Crime issued a collection that ran to 300 pages! The same is true of King, for the record: He has a pretty extensive backlist of straight crime writing, albeit stories like "Dolan's Cadillac" are scary as hell.

hockey has been HUGE in romance for at least 10-15 years for reasons that are hotly debated! But some authors are definitely jumping on the HR moment, while others who have a lot of hockey in their backlist (i.e. Sarina Bowen) are doing a fresh promo push and even adding new covers to older titles

I agree and disagree. Amazon has opened the gates for writers to bypass the trad market, and I applaud that. Amazon is a greater threat to booksellers than publishers, and has made backlist/backcatalog items available that would have otherwise disappeared. But...
