Harvesting and processing lilac flowers to make lilac sugar today.

It smells amazing!

I'm hoping I'll have enough to make a Costco sized batch.

One of my 2025 goals is to make wild violet jelly. Step one is of course gathering wild violets. #Spring #Wildviolets #Backyardforaging

Our little pawpaw patch is making a comeback after last year’s tornado! We got one little fruit this season and I’ve been watching it like a hawk, waiting for it to ripen. It’s finally ready! #backyardforaging

Taking some inventory of the edible plants in my yard (yes, some invasive, I’m working to replace with natives). Today I spotted speedwell, henbit, grape hyacinth, dandelion, and creeping bellflower. #foraging #backyardforaging #edibleweeds

Found out May was officially National Mushroom Hunting Day 🍄
A little dual-season throwback to foraging under the backyard trees last May vs. finding some hidden autumn magic last November. Nature changing the playlist.

It's easy to forget just how back breaking picking violets can be.
When the syrup turns that rich cobalt, it's always worth it though.

Made stinging nettle puree to freeze for future fun projects like nettle pasta and crepes.
Nettles add nutrients, color, and unique flavor for maximum food fun! Blanch 1 min, ice bath, drainage, blend, freeze.

One of my recent adventures in life; is learning about invasive plants in my backyard and how to use them. So my battle plan is to eat (if I can) and use each one. Definitely will be an interesting challenge!
