“Gang rapes would take place. By God’s grace, there would be no complaints. The people there are a group that likes rape. There are women and girls who like rape, especially among the left, democratic, secular and Bahujan groups,” he said.

This is the BJP.
This is who runs India.
Make no mistake--this isn't the fringe, this is the baseline opinion of every sanghi, every Hindu rightwinger, even the ones who are still uncomfortable saying this shit out loud. Ethnonationalism is fascism is murderous authoritarianism is rape culture.

A superb queer zine - highly recommended for anyone interested in queer studies and oppression.

Solidarity with Indian students protesting for Palestine in the US is completely hollow unless it is accompanied by solidarity with Dalit, Bahujan, Adivasi, Kashmiri, Muslim and Christian students being expelled, jailed and lynched in India.

Can every one of my IndiaTwitterMoots get one bahujan friend from there over here? We need the diverse energy of India Twitter. It's a lovely place, but seems like a gated community of upper-caste folks right now. Please drop interesting handles from #anticaste #bahujan Twitter. Or starter pack?

April is #DalitHistoryMonth. It is also #PoetryMonth for a number of English-speaking netizens. A few years ago I had done a twitter thread of Dalit and Bahujan poets. This year, I will try to do women.
(I apologise in advance for the lack of alt+text transcript, since I would have to handtype it.)

For any of us who are south Asian we need to help all of our dialects get on to Bluesky. At @equalitylabs.bsky.social we are doing specialized trainings with Dalit bahujan orgs and leaders and that is working. If we all pitched in we could get even more online in the next three months.

Holi as a festival is rooted in celebrating burning Holika, a bahujan woman. It's a brahminical and patriarchal practice.

Not to forget, a lot of women face sexual harassment in name of "playing" holi by men.

Further to my DEI post, I’d like to preempt any obtuse interpretation in the Indian context.
Reservations for Dalit and Bahujan communities are an integral part of social justice. They aren’t DEI.
If at all we need global north-speak equivalent, then, they are to be considered action of ‘repair’.

As Kancha Iliah asserts, for the oppressed castes English is a language of liberation:

‘For us it is not a Macaulay language but an Ambedkar language. It is an Indian and Dalit-bahujan liberation language.’

Well argued.

Bahujan Spectatorship is among the ideas in Jyoti Nisha’s film Dr. BR Ambedkar: Now & Then (2023), which examines caste inequality down the ages through the lens of her personal experience. The documentary is out on MUBI.

So transliterating it as Jyoti would be casteist. But also - depending on who is doing the transliteration - Jotiba is an respectful endearment and commonly used by Dalit and Bahujan writers, especially those who are Marathi speakers. So in reported dialogue - Jotiba, but for citation - Jotirao.

The only place to get to hear dalit and bahujan opinions on the Supreme Court judgement on subdivisions and 'creamy layer' exceptions in caste based reservations is twitter. Print media isn't providing enough of a platform #Casteism

1/ Today we remember Saheb Kanshi Ram, an influential Indian politician who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Dalit-Bahujan communities. He pushed back against caste discrimination by mobilizing caste-oppressed peoples to take political action.
