Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the team's recent 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that entered the game with a 0-4 record and without starting quarterback Baker Mayfield due to injury. Jones emphasized that it is 'premature' to consider moving on from first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker, stating he still has faith in Parker's ability to improve the defense. The Cowboys entered the game as 8.5-point favorites but were outgained by the Buccaneers, who ran for 241 yards and completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. Jones expressed disappointment in the defensive performance, particularly noting the Buccaneers' success running between the tackles, a strategy the Cowboys had anticipated would be less effective. The Cowboys' defense, which entered the game ranked 31st in total yards allowed and 26th in points surrendered, was without recently acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. due to a stomach bug. Jones also indicated that the team remains open to potential trades, emphasizing the value of draft picks as future capital. He stated that the team would consider opportunities that fit their needs, noting that they are 2-3 on the season and did not expect to face a 0-4 Tampa Bay team. The Cowboys will next face the Green Bay Packers on October 18 in a Sunday Night Football matchup. Jones' comments reflect the team's ongoing challenges in defense and their strategic approach to roster management amid a difficult season.
