Hi Pringle! Thank you for the kind donation! I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. This fundraiser received a ton of replies, so I’ve been working through all the questions in batches. I’m writing to you through this document because I think your question deserves a thoughtful response. I plan to post this with alt-text, in case it’s helpful, but please let me know if it doesn’t work. I can try another solution. I think comfort in dress is somewhat subjective, as people will feel most “comfortable” in clothes that make them feel like themselves. A silky dress might be the most physically comfortable thing in the world, but if you don’t identify as a very feminine person, then the outfit will feel very uncomfortable. That said, when I think of “comfortable and relaxed” aesthetics, I think of brands like Lemaire, Jan Jan Van Essche, Stoffa, and, to some degree, Margaret Howell (a friend once aptly described her as the English countryside version of Brunello Cucinelli). I also think about certain items, such as a chunky shawl-collar cardigan, ideally in cashmere if you’re indulgent, but lambswool would also be very nice. If you have sensory issues, just team the cardigan with a long-sleeved T-shirt. Naturally, I also think about things like sweats. Bryceland’s has sweat suits — a sweatshirt designed to be worn with a pair of sweatpants — that I think look quite nice. I also like the hoodies at Brut Paris, a French brand that just opened a store in New York City. I mostly wear mine with Standard Issue sweatpants. But for things you can wear out, I think it depends a lot on what kind of aesthetic makes you feel most like you. This will require some exploration. For me, the most comfortable thing is an old pair of raw denim jeans (Self Edge is a nice store for this kind of thing, although lately I’ve been into Buck Mason’s Full Saddle jeans) teamed with a sweater or old t-shirt (J. Crew sweatshirt or Bosie Shetland), and some outerwear (such as Balmacaan in the winter, I like the ones from Kaptain Sunshine, Sartoria Jun, and Cordings).
