My morning leaf-litter hunt didn't result in any springtail photographs today, but I did snap this little psocid (barkfly) that was under a Laurel leaf. #psocoptera #Staffs #garden #macro #photography

I saw a new patch barkfly today, having not yet examined one it's currently just Mesopsocus sp. Large for a barkfly, but the unwinged females are very well camouflaged and both sexes are very skittish, making getting a good look (and photos) tricky.

Another of those small interesting things that turn up on our house wall: Cuneopalpus cyanops, a barkfly often found on conifers. Seems fairly scarce - I can find no Devon records - but as usual with these things probably under recorded.

Great Excitement!
Well, not so much because of tiny invertebrate blindness - it's not a pretty butterfly but it is the first record for #VC55.
Barkfly, Ectopsocus axillaris.

2024 Highlights #4. Blaste quadrimaculata (Psocidae). A fine little barkfly and another lucky find on our house wall. It appears to be the first Devon record but it's likely these things are under recorded if not under appreciated.

Last night was pretty woeful for moths to the garden light trap, so this barkfly was by far the most interesting species in the catch. It is almost certainly Loenisia variegata, but will need a bit more scrutiny to confirm. #ukwildlife #Psocoptera schemes.brc.ac.uk/barkfly/key/...
