2. AppleScript — to automate parts of macOS's GUI not exposed to the shell,
3. PowerShell — because fuck writing batchfile scripts.
That covers each major OS.

BTW in terms of practical advice, I recommend using the app (SteamPipeGUI, I think it's called?) until you can sort of get it to work manually, then it has a button to export those settings to something you can invoke via command line / batchfile.

Just checked the version you linked above (which seems to be a modernization from 1999), it does not seem to enforce permadeath either -- the "quit" menu has "backup and continue" and I was allowed to reload the backup after death, no batchfile necessary.

It just gave me a python script to automate the insertion of Freewrite text into Scrivener. It’s a feature I’ve been begging for forever. I’ll have to see if it works, but that was a nice treat. It’s not much more than a batchfile really, but every little helps.

Playing around with linux shell, windows powershell and windows batchfile. I will say I like using linux shell more than the other two. For those who use a Windows OS like me, you can emulate a linux terminal by using the Git Bash.
