The underlying algorithm that’s used to hash and store user passwords in the database will be changed in WordPress 6.8 from phpass portable hashing to bcrypt.

It’s *encryption algorithms* you probably shouldn’t build yourself, not auth. Of course you can roll your own auth. Just use Bcrypt.

I've never understood why you would use a 3rd party user auth service like Auth0, Clerk, etc.
Trading, what, a week's worth of dev work for the cost of every single user action your app is ever going to do having network latency added to it just seems like a horrible trade-off.

It’s *encryption algorithms* you probably shouldn’t build yourself, not auth. Of course you can roll your own auth. Just use Bcrypt.
