Getting pissed in style then 😂 Passed Dingwall, never visited the place although I got married in Beauly, which is very close. I really should go back to Scotland soon, been too long. Miss the dreich weather and the midges 😂 no not really, but I do miss the lovely folk, so friendly and humorous. 👍

In October 1910, Simon Joseph Fraser, Lord Lovat and 23rd Chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat, married the Hon. Laura Lister in London. After their honeymoon they went to live at Beaufort Castle, Beauly where they arrived on 5 November 1910

An AED in a protective, yellow case on an outside wall. The case is on the right hand side, hard up against a cream coloured drainpipe.
The building is Phipps Hall, Beauly. Placed by the corner of the wall, the AED is mirrored on the left side of the image by a yellow grit bin. Beside the bin a bright red safety barrier leans against a wall. There are three windows: a single unit above the bin; a double set on the ground floor sitting above bike rails, and another double off set above those on the first floor. The upstairs set are in a coombed, crow step gabble. Natural slates cover the roof. Over in the top left, there’s a wee, decorative turret. Plus there is a double width red door (visually) behind the AED, recessed from the wall where the AED is mounted. A kind of courtyard is formed by the walls. The courtyard is paved with modern setts, and there’s a wide drop pavement between courtyard and the car park. Oh, and there’s a soil vent pipe by the safety barrier, plus down pipes, gutters and other rainwater goods (cast iron boxes at the joint between gutters and down pipes at roof level).

Yesterday, grey skies hid the colours of autumn seen across the Beauly Firth.

Today however, the sun is shining.

View across the Firth from North Kessock. In the foreground is seaweed which is giving off that wonderful smell you get at low tide. There is no heron to be seen anywhere, and really there should be. On the far shore, maybe a mile off, we see the land rising steeply. Alongside green conifers we see deciduous trees, oaks etc, turning golden. And then, in swathes among the conifers themselves, there are larches, turning golden too as they drop their needles. The air is still. We can breathe. There are stretches of road where mature trees’ branches reach across to caress one another, and we call them green tunnels. In autumn we get golden tunnels, as long as the sun is highlighting the colours. We don’t want smudgy brown, do we? This stretch gives us giant sycamores, oaks and beeches over a long stretch. Some seem to be rooted in the very stone walls which protected the seedlings when they were first planted, nature swallowing man’s efforts to create order, The walls, not shown here, have all but vanished beneath lichen, moss and tree.

I’d guessed from previous fencing posts. I did love fencing - had the opportunity to do it at school with Professor Bracewell (?). Funnily enough, fencing was a big thing in Dingwall too, so i know a few people here who fenced at school, and together we briefly ran a club in Beauly.
