Group think

Oystercatcher pandemonium @rspb Snettisham, Norfolk, UK yesterday. To see hundreds of thousands of waders pushed up on the mudflats by the high tide was something else.

Sammy’s Point, a Greater Yellowlegs found first view, we believed the bird was a Lesser Yellowlegs, photos later showed Greater Yellowlegs. A reminder of the importance of checking images closely when separating these very similar waders. #spurnbirds

One of the more unexpected patterns of the last decade – population increases and range expansions in some northern waders – was maintained in 2024. Numbers of Red-necked Phalarope and Wood Sandpiper remained high.

First bird of my day: thousands of waders hanging out at Snettisham. Wow. Also quite misty so not as wow. But still wow. #firstbirdofmyday #whatsyours

Siblyback Lake: the lingering juv Buff-breasted Sandpiper persists while other waders have moved on. A pleasure whilst it stays.

Couldn't have asked for any better views of this fab juvenile Spotted Sandpiper at Nostell Priory in West Yorkshire this week. My first UK juvenile so good to see features that contrast to our Common Sandpiper! #RareBirdsUK #Birding #Waders @waderquest.bsky.social
