It sure seems like the AI tech bubble was predicated on a belief, both in the industry and in the market, that realizing it was dependent on permanent authoritarian rule.
"Now, the power shift in Washington, as well as the election of several governors who have promised data-center restrictions, exposed the stock market’s fragility. The yearslong bull market left the major U.S. benchmark indexes top-heavy and tech-dependent."

If maintaining your belief system requires forcing it on the populace via nationalistic theocracy, perhaps the belief system simply isn't that compelling.

They came from different backgrounds and represented a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first.

One of the political bets of tech—of social media, AI, the financialization-of-everything, disinfo & bots, alt-media, and lately betting markets—is you can create an "overlayer reality" that is as a shared collective belief of the world that has more power than other ways of collective belief.

There has absolutely been a belief amongst the tycoons at the trillion-dollar companies that they were in endgame, and would never have to be concerned with public sentiment or accountability the rule of law ever again.

This blowout seems heavily driven by Trump’s deep unpopularity. Trump’s unpopularity is most directly attributable to the public belief the economy is bad. But the economy is not really THAT bad.

So the thing missing from our understanding seems to be “the source of public belief.”

After 2024, fascist-curious elites went all in on participating in the belief that the small caste of Fascist Fantasists do, in fact, have the power to set reality. But lots of left-leaning people participate in this belief too; which is why I get annoyed at far-right propaganda amplification here.
One way to think about this is as a kind of participatory propaganda, not dissimilar from the MAGA “meme magic”, where political and media elites attempted to meme permanent authoritarian rule into existence through the power of collective make-believe by acting as-if it were already real.
After 2024, not only did Republicans claim a sweeping mandate, a wide swath of elites rushed to treat a narrow win as a binding cultural referendum. Business leaders gave bribes, media orgs paid him over frivolous lawsuits, figures like Ezra Klein proclaimed a "vibe shift," Columbia, law firms, etc.
