The International School of Portland serves nearly 400 elementary students, most of whom arrive by car. There is very little biking/walking/transit access nearby.

This Spring term at Portland State, four new projects took their first steps down the #BetterBlockPSU Project Pathway!

Submitted by community members, the projects got underway in a Pedestrian and Bicycle Planning course taught by Drusilla Van Hengel and Ryan Hashagen: trec.pdx.edu/news/four-ne...

In the final phase, the project moves from Urban Studies & Planning to Civil Engineering. In spring 2025, students will develop an engineering plan with designs & other materials to help with the city permitting process.

Great writeup from @bikeportland.org on a Better Block PSU project to reimagine South Sheridan!

ISP parent and school volunteer Ryan Mehan submitted the concept to #BetterBlockPSU in spring 2024. It was accepted and has since been developed into the 30% design stage—a key step toward getting built.

The #BetterBlockPSU program has been getting a bit of attention in recent months, with coverage from the @portlandmercury.com, @bikeportland.org, & @thestreettrust.org's Oregon Active Transportation Summit. So we're extra excited to welcome these four new projects and see where they go!

ADA ramps, advisory sidewalks, and wayfinding aids are just a few of the design options developed by a team of PSU @maseehcollege.bsky.social capstone students for the Vancouver, WA @amtrak.com station – part of a #BetterBlockPSU project.

The International School of Portland is working with #BetterBlockPSU to improve walk/bike access to the school's campus. This past term at PSU, a team of civil engineering capstone students developed five potential design solutions for the area.
