#Walking is the answer to many of the challenges we currently face.

Making it possible for people to walk in comfort and safety is the foundation for flourishing lives, happier communities, thriving economies and a healthy environment.

On another thread, I was recounting social media and real interactions with "Lord" Moylan of Grenfell which reminded me of this complement from him that I *still* haven't had printed onto a mug.

Beta-minus. What a pompous prick.

This man should be a pariah.

Tomorrow, I’ll be doing my annual, long #WalkToWork, this time along the A1 in London from Highgate to St Paul’s. It’s to celebrate National Walking Month and highlight @livingstreets.bsky.social’s emergency appeal. Should you be interested, I’ll be posting here about what catches my eye as I go.
Emergency appeal
I have donated to @livingstreets to support their vital campaign work for safe and welcoming streets for all. Will you join me? https://act.livingstreets.org.uk/page/157094/donate/1

In a recent Westminster Hall debate on Active Travel to School, I spoke about the great work of LivingStreets and the real issues I’ve seen locally — from potholes to damaged safety barriers. With the right infrastructure, we can make walking to school safe for every child.

Wiltshire Council take note. EV Chargers belong on the road as they are infrastructure for vehicles.
London showing how it’s done.

If TfL can put huge rapid chargers on the carriageway of London’s busiest roads, there’s no excuse for other authorities not to do same.

As we rightly gear up for an EV revolution, we should be resolute that charge points don’t belong on pavements.

Delighted to be at the #LivingStreets #WalkingSummit on behalf of @mumsforlungs.bsky.social this week.
As new guidance lands on safer streets for women and girls, it's clear: walking and wheeling cut air pollution - but only if streets feel safe for everyone.
Clean air starts with better streets 💚

Investing in walking and wheeling can help the high street bounce back and make local economies thrive.

And your councillor needs to know. Write to them today.

“If you had to guess the leading cause of death for children and young people around the world, what would you say? Malaria perhaps? Pneumonia? Suicide? They’re all high up there, but no, it’s road accidents.”
If road deaths were a virus, we’d call it a pandemic. Safer transport helps us all – and we need it urgently | Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Jean Todt
Deaths on the road costs countries up to 5% of GDP. Centring transport around people, not cars, can propel development

Then and now. What is noticeable is that the scene is people rather than car orientated. Also, there is beautiful lighting. Even the utility telegraph poll has a drop down tear drop light. Street lighting is so important to #livingstreets.

Wales has a track record of leading on public safety, smoking ban, 20mph etc. Surprising we’re not seeing the same leadership on pavement parking. Same principle, safer, more accessible streets. Worth a look at what's happening in England:

@senedd.wales
This is our moment, we're on the cusp of a BIG win for pedestrians in England
We know pavement parking is not only an irritation for many, but outrightly dangerous to wheelchair users, visually impaired people and parents walking their children to school. Write to your MP today, asking them to vote on a crucial Government amendment to reclaim pavements for pedestrians. Tell your MP to support Amendment 265 of the English Devolution Bill today. @livingstreets
