Yet another #UShistory #slavery #sentenceoftheday #booksky #ThisLandIsYourLand #BeverlyGage "In 1829, Mexico abolished slavery," something the Founders "had barely considered."

Another #sentenceoftheday from #BeverlyGage #amreading #booksky #ThisLandIsYourLand #roadtrip: "I was taught early on that women had become equal too, and that 1972 was the best possible moment in all of human history for a little girl to be born."

So happy to learn from #BeverlyGage that Monticello now has an exhibit on Sally Hemings, the slave who was Jefferson's concubine, who was the mother of six of his children (tho this book was written pre-Trump 2, so who knows) #UShistory #Monticello

What happened to the Oneida Nation? #BeverlyGage: The colonists' victory turned out to b their own loss. The Treaty of Canandaigua rewarded them w a vast swath of land in upstate NY, but over the next century, due to questionable land sales & settler threats, they were swindled down to 32 acres.

Still reading #ThisLandIsYourLand by #BeverlyGage. I'm on Trip # 2: Mount Vernon & Colonial Williamsburg. Jamestown was "the first permanent English settlement in North America" (founded decades after the Spanish reached the Philippines) and the place where the 1st captive Africans arrived, in 1619.
