Saw a 4 day old baby today. Offered Beyfortus. Mom jumped at the opportunity. Said her 2 year old ex-premie got Beyfortus in the NICU. Whole family got very sick with RSV that season. Except for the high risk premie. That is a success story. That is science.

#RSV rates in infants are falling. Hospitalizations are down 28 % and 43 % for infants less than 7 months in two different networks, as reported in this week's MMWR.

This is real world evidence that maternal immunization and MAbs are protecting this vulnerable populations - #MedSky.

A preprint from Quebec following their universal coverage program for Beyfortus (RSV antibody) for infants found that it was *nearly 90% effective* in preventing RSV-related ER visits, hospitalizations and ICU admissions.

Für welche Personengruppe ist die RSV-Prophylaxe mit Beyfortus (Nirsevimab) empfohlen und wann soll die Prophylaxe erfolgen? Die STIKO empfiehlt die RSV-Prophylaxe mit Beyfortus allen Neugeborenen und Säuglingen zur Verhinderung schwerer RSV-bedingten Erkrankungen in ihrer 1. RSV-Saison. Säuglinge, die zwischen April und September geboren sind, sollen Beyfortus möglichst im Herbst vor Beginn ihrer 1. RSV-Saison im Zeitraum zwischen September bis November erhalten. Neugeborene, die während der RSV-Saison (meist zwischen Oktober bis März) geboren werden, sollen Beyfortus möglichst rasch nach der Geburt, idealerweise bei Entlassung aus der Geburtseinrichtung bzw. bei der U2 (3. bis 10. Lebenstag) bekommen. Eine versäumte Nirsevimab-Gabe soll innerhalb der 1. RSV-Saison schnellstmöglich nachgeholt werden. Stand: 27.06.2024

Durfte heute in der #Apotheke zum ersten Mal die #RSV Prophylaxe für Säuglinge Beyfortus in der Hand halten. Zwar erstmal nur EINE 5er-Packung aus den USA und Abrechnung noch nicht geklärt, aber jetzt schlummert sie schon friedlich im Kühlschrank der Kinderarztpraxis 😇

27 week premie, now 4 months old. Out of the NICU x 3 weeks. Got Beyfortus before discharge.
Started day care last week. Caught RSV.
Runny nose, congestion, mild cough.
NO distress.
NO ER visit.
NO hospital admission.

I have given lots of infants Beyfortus this year to prevent severe RSV infection.
My office has now sent several babies to the hospital with severe RSV.
NONE of them received Beyfortus.
Yes, this is anecdote. But studies say the same.
New parents, PLEASE get your babies Beyfortus.
It works.

A list of contraindications for beyfortus: BEYFORTUS is contraindicated in infants and children with a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, to nirsevimab-alip or to any of the excipients. Notably is does not include mild acute illness or recent RSV exposure.

This should be a never event. RSV is so dangerous to infants and children. We offer Beyfortus before discharge from the NICU during respiratory season, but I’ve seen many people having to fight for it (and not succeed!) during their baby’s first winter.
