Stop reading theory and start controlling RIP. I break down stack-based buffer overflows from vulnerable C code to the final exploit, including how modern OS mitigations block your shellcode.

This talk was interesting on multiple levels. First, it introduced me to types of vulnerabilities I wasn't aware of, prompting me to consider researching one or two of them further. It also gave me a glimpse of the immense complexity in this field. #defcon #binaryExploitation

My favorite debugger output is the kind that ruins a confident theory.

Stop staring at abstract overflow diagrams. Walk through a real 64-bit Linux target: from the vulnerable C line to controlling RIP. Understand exactly why DEP and stack canaries exist—and how to bypass them.

A crash is not a failure. It is the program explaining its boundaries.

Stop guessing why your exploit payload fails. We trace a stack-based buffer overflow from vulnerable C code to RIP control on 64-bit Linux, analyzing how modern mitigations actually work under the hood.

This afternoon's fun: pwning NetBSD-aarch64 (ARM)

[details in comments - why is there such a small limit in Bluesky?]
