WORM EMERGENCY!!! Our -80 compressor is failing and we’re not sure what will happen to our worm stocks at the current temp (-45C). They’ve been at this temp for 16 hours and we’re contemplating reviving all strains not currently in use to save them, or move them to a new -80. Anyone have advice??

Dr. Dayoff and her logic behind the 1 letter amino acid abbreviations is the way to go when introducing proteinogenic amino acid nomenclature. However, it isn't how a biochemistry course should begin. Start with the meaning of life - avoiding equilibrium. #ChemSky #BiochemSky
THIS, fellow biology professors, THIS is how to start undergrad biochemistry - NOT with "memorize the side chains and DIE, scared premeds" (trust me, I have 31 years' of data on this watching biochem taught this way) but rather - with this!
H/t @jcarroll42.bsky.social
I took biochem in 2001, and for nearly 20 years read amino acid sequences daily… and I never knew Dayhoff named them or even the logic behind things like Q until last Friday (h/t Mike Janech). Also, this is another big Dayhoff moment for me. She was incredible!
