It's great to see the heatmap icon I contributed to bioicons.com has been used in papers. Bioicons is a open-source repository for vector graphs. There are many very nice icons on there. Please do check it out.

I'm speaking as someone who made vector arts for my own work and have contributed several of them to bioicons.com (an open source repository). When I made an illustration, I believe every stroke, shape, and shade had a purpose. I can't say the same for AI generated artwork.

Not as pretty but this should give you a vector you can tune easily in a similar way with reduced color complexity (might be a bit slow for large proteins in contour mode) bioicons.com/pdb2vector/ And uses less CO2 😅
