#Bioindicator
In science we have this thing called a bioindicator. For instance certain plants are only found in ancient woods & are called bioindicator of antiquity.

The key bioindicator of any political party is its position on trans ppl. Transphobia is a far right bioindicator of extremism.

This is lungwort or lung lichen/Lobaria pulmonaria. Lichen is a symbiotic organism composed of fungi and green algae or cynobacteria. Lichens are essential for keeping our air clean. This particular lichen is a nitrogen fixer, source of food, and a useful bioindicator for the health of an ecosystem.

🪶🧫 Birds are breathing plastic.

A new study finds micro- and nanoplastics in the lungs of 51 bird species.

Larger, land-dwelling birds had higher levels – showing birds may be bioindicators of airborne plastic pollution.

Tracking mercury exposure is crucial for monitoring an ecosystem. Using a bioindicator can tell how much is in the food web. New way of mapping pollution. Identifying where it’s from, can help decrease it.
