This convo w/ @cosmicarturo.bsky.social is definitely more philosophical than your usual #BiologyInNumbers fare, but I think it makes it all the more worthwhile.

S4 of #BiologyInNumbers begins with another set of minisodes recorded at the @smbmathbiology.bsky.social/ESMTB meeting. We got to visit the lovely city of Graz to talk about: women’s health, social determination of measles, and a precious baseball card collection...

I am so psyched for this. Thank you to @suzannesindi.bsky.social for recommending murderbot during her #BiologyInNumbers podcast episode. If you're more into science than sci-fi though, listen to her episode to learn more about her as a researcher 😊

Speaking of the end of S3, I try and get selfies with the current season's guests at the annual @smbmathbiology.bsky.social meeting. Alas this year there were only three, but it was lovely to meet Gary An, Daniel Cruz and @lukasgroschner.bsky.social in person 🤳

Also since math has such a bad rep as a "difficult" subject, it feels quite karmic for a mathematician to talk about how they were tentative about learning biology.
This was a lovely end to another great series of @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's podcast #BiologyInNumbers.

Loved speaking with Veronica Ciocanel about her award-winning paper " Parameter Identifiability in PDE Models of Fluorescence Recovery after Photobleaching." for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's pod. Or as I read it "Parameters for glow in the dark cells" 🦠

This time watch with the "sound off". I wish I had more time to make blooper reels from recordings, because you're missing out on gems like this with Veronica Ciocanel, the next guest for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's podcast #BiologyInNumbers. This episode will be out next Tuesday!

For this episode of #BiologyInNumbers, I had the pleasure of speaking with Daniel Cruz about research, his role as chair of @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's Community, Inclusion, & Engagement Committee, and as a teacher. I really enjoyed listening to his perspective on why we should want to learn math.

Gary An is the first physician-scientist we featured on @smbmathbiology.bsky.social #BiologyInNumbers. It was interesting to learn why he was doing research let alone in #MathBio. But he had some pretty good reasons for rationalizing why. Find links to the full episode here: smb.org/news/13614506

This year's @smbmathbiology.bsky.social meeting provided us with another delightful mashup of math biologists (and me) talking about science, and in Amy's case, ultra-running and conference coffee ☕
Thanks to all the excellent attendees who agreed to speak with me for Biology in Numbers.

Thank you to everyone who has already sat down with me for a minisode. I never fail to be delighted by the fun and quirky answers to these questions.

And that was it for #SMB2025 and collecting season 2 guests of #BiologyInNumbers, with the exception of Matt Penn. We wish him the best in his work as a data scientist for Italian football club Como 1907.
