A very late Willow Warbler was ringed yesterday - the latest Calf record since 1991. And after a 'blank year' last year, it's nice to have been catching some Fieldfares - such a gorgeous thrush 💙

The Calf is getting battered by Storm Boelo at the moment - this Purple Sandpiper is showing how we all feel! Seawatching today provided some new species for the month: Greylag Goose, Brent Goose and Great Northern Diver.

Great day yesterday! Large movement of Redwing, with 2746 logged (3rd highest day-count) and 70 ringed (2nd highest ringing total in a day). A second Yellow-browed Warbler was present and a Short-eared Owl dropped in to see us just after sunset.

So it's been a while (again), BlueSky. Making up for it with this stunner! Today at #Landsort Bird Obs 🇸🇪 we caught a ♂ Arctic/hoary #redpoll (Acanthis flammea exilipes). It may not have species status anymore, but it's goooooorgeous. Photos: Johan Rosén.

Please consider following @birdobscouncil.bsky.social on their new BlueSky account and look out for #BirdObservatory.

I’ve just been to the 55th AGM of the @birdobscouncil.bsky.social held at @btobirds.bsky.social. An excellent weekend with lots of chat and enthusiasm about Obs Work.

It was great to meet #BirdObservatory representatives from across the British Isles and Ireland this weekend at the annual #BirdObservatoriesCouncil meeting. Many of these sites host breeding #seabirds, and it was a chance to talk SMP with those conducting vital long-term bird monitoring. #UKbirding

A quiet morning @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social but 3 Brambling & a good number of Skylarks over were signs migration hasn’t stopped yet! 353 Pale-bellied Brent geese around the island today as well.

We’ve done very poorly for young woodpigeon here this year, the first year since I started here that we’ve only had two confirmed broods so far. It’s a shame, as we do quite well for them usually. Anyone else experiencing this?
