A question for Bishop Bird, of Ballarat, who instructed his lawyers to go all the way to High Court to avoid paying damages to a complainant of child sexual abuse on basis that priests aren’t technically employed by his diocese:
Did your priests accept JobKeeper during COVID pandemic?
If so, why?

Unincorporated associations, like the church, are now required to have a nominated person who can be sued. It seems in this case it’s BishopBird. #PortFairy #Warrnambool #Ballarat #Colac #Mortlake #PortLand @ncronline.bsky.social @milliganreports.bsky.social #Catholic @guardianaustralia.bsky.social
In any case, if the institution is not responsible, that leaves the executive management of the institution personally responsible.

Australians call for changes to laws following the decision by the #HighCourt - Diocese of Ballarat v victim.
Disgraceful that Ballarat #BishopBird & #Melbourne #ArchbishopComonseli are still instructing their solicitors to do all in their power to protect the #Catholic #Church & not #victims.
