The insult that got hurled at Caesar most consistently, per the sources, was the allegation that he had bottomed for the king of Bithynia

And can we take a moment to appreciate Roman Emperor Hadrian's Greek twunk boyfriend from Bithynia, Antinous?

Amazing study! Bithynia opercula are the trapdoor-like structures of small freshwater snails, in case, like me, you were wondering:
We’re really privileged to be part of this study: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/..., working on the exceptional Schöningen site to try to narrow down its age. We analysed Bithynia opercula from excavation blocks taken from the spear horizon, looking at their intra-crystalline amino acids. 🧵 1/5

Astonishing! Rare footage of @emmatheem.bsky.social emerging from their natural home has been captured, quite unexpectedly! Emma is known to spend much of their time deep within the Great Bithynia, and the sight of them was quite unexpected by our team!

Incredible densities of Common Bithynia (Bithynia tentaculata) coating aquatic vegetation of Little Ouse & also Leach's Bithynia (Bithynia leachii) with only 4 whorls. Also plenty of those stalwarts, Lister's River-Snail (Viviparus contectus) & (Wandering Snail Ampullaceana balthica). #MolluscMonday

🪷 #Lanuvium relief shows #Antinous and dog. 30 March is the ancient Armenian feast of the dog goddess Baba and the haralez ghost dogs who lick dead warriors back to life. #Antinoos likely knew of these Bithynia/Armenia "perpetual lickers" spirit dogs: antinousstars.blogspot.com/2026/03/anti... 🪷

Harmantepe Castle is a castle in Bithynia (modern Sakarya)

It was probably part of the fortification system on the Ottoman border along the Sangarios River built by Michael VIII, which was captured by the Ottomans in subsequent decades.

Pliny in Bithynia. Each episode starts with a voiceover of him writing to Trajan and then he's interrupted by whatever this week's crisis is.

I like this pic of a Common Bithynia (Bithynia tentaculata) at the end of the rainbow. With more River Nerites (Theodoxus fluviatilis) & their eggs, Acute Bladder Snail (Physella acuta), plus Common River-Snail (Viviparus viviparus) & chomping Great Ram's-Horn (Planorbarius corneus). #MolluscMonday

May 21: Eastern feast day of Helena, mother of Constantine. She was born around 248-250 CE in Bithynia & worked as a stable girl along the imperial post route. But she was mostly “remembered” for having the True Cross found. Read @writinghelena.bsky.social’s epic bio: global.oup.com/academic/pro...
