By the way, I'm not saying this distinction cuts in one direction: an authoritarian regime that existed within living memory can be a source of nostalgia for some political blocs as much as it is a warning. It matters, but it matters in complicated ways.

Just so we’re keeping score, a hung Knesset in Israel between two similarly anti-Arab and pro-genocide blocs is a firm rebuke to Netanyahu, but a midterm result that might ultimately eclipse the Tea Party wave of 2020 is ‘far from a mandate’.

Without PR the Arab Israelis would be ignored entirely as a bloc. The paralysis exists purely because both major blocs are unwilling to work with a large chunk of the voting population. Getting rid of PR just makes that easier. Hope this helps

This is how you get a situation where so many people online genuinely believe that US Jews are a core right-wing constituency blamed for Trump / MAGA victories even though they are one of the most consistent Democratic voting blocs, who support Dems at rates of 65%-80% in *every* election.
