What fueled the early blogosphere was the sharing and linking among bloggers and the posting of blogrolls on sidebars. You just have to get a circle of bloggers to start off and then keep expanding that circle. Social media is dying. Indie media is where we have to go

It's not enough for comics to simply move online. Comics did that! And it worked temporarily. But this is no longer a world of Geocities and blogrolls.

I wish I had a suitable answer for this instead of "Everyone flee to YouTube!" We've become so used to digital malls that the quaint downtown vibe of blogrolls and message boards are obsolete.
In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

God I miss the old internet of blogrolls and even stumbleupon, where you could spends hours visiting weird blogs or websites and find some absolutely batshit crazy website or some of the funniest writing you’ve ever seen.
