#BlueTorial
Also, absolutely love the idea of a #BlueTorial! Can we make that hashtag pop, BlueSky #SciComm people?

A (very) belated bluetorial about a new preprint from the lab. Spearheaded by my super talented PhD student, Dávid Czimer we developed SCAMP - an open-source tool for profiling Alizarin Red-labelled calcification in fish larvae. 1/5 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
SCAMP - an open-source tool for profiling Alizarin Red-labelled calcification in fish larvae
Quantifying skeletal mineralization phenotypes in larval fish is complicated by the natural curvature of the notochord and by sample-to-sample variability in orientation, staining and imaging. Consequ...

for the weekend reading 📖 the path(s) to multicellularity.
a "bluetorial" by will ratcliff. don't miss this! #MicroSky #ProtistsOnSky
1/ There are a ton of cool papers coming out on evolutionary transitions in individuality right now! Here are five recent ones I've really enjoyed, spanning Snowball Earth, volvocine algae, plasmids that fuse into a new individual, the relatives of animals, and... water kefir

I am very pleased to present the lab’s first #bluetorial!
This concerns our recent publication in Development @dev-journal.bsky.social doi.org/10.1242/dev.... This work, led by postdoc (and former grad student) Kelsey Reed, is the result of many years of hard work by a wonderful team. (1/n)
A protoplast-based method to visualize early cell biological events in plant cellular reprogramming and regeneration
Summary: This study presents a live-imaging platform for tracking individual plant protoplasts in culture, enabling analysis of cellular processes, signaling dynamics and developmental transitions.

ICYMI... Learn everything about the voracious Beroe in this Bluetorial masterclass from @rebeccarhelm.bsky.social 🦑 #ctenophore
Watching animals eat is like my biology crack. I don’t need it, I don’t have to do it, I don’t even always like it, but there’s just something about critters noshing on one another that leaves me gobsmacked. And nothing does it like the comb jelly Beroe [Thread 🧵]

Instead of bluetorial for our preprint, I've decided to write a short post series in my blog, because there's so much to share. Here's the first part describing the initiation of the project and our reasoning for the new nomenclature. Following parts are coming really soon, I promise!😅

Excellent Bluetorial on our recent collaborative work on NDH-2 from Bacillus subtilis from @rhyswg.bsky.social who led the work with Ashleigh as first author
Out now in @natmicrobiol.nature.com: Bacillus subtilis builds protein filaments that act as a pseudomembrane, pulling quinone out of the bilayer and carrying it into the cytosol for reduction by NADH dehydrogenase, well away from the membrane itself.

Very glad to have contributed to this during my master's! We hope the work resonates as something worth considering within the AD community or more broadly among those using transgenic models.

Are you using 5xFAD mice to study Alzheimer’s disease? Our work out today @cp-neuron.bsky.social may be relevant to you 🐁🧠 Age and sex are known to influence Aβ plaque burden in these mice. Here, we found that the transgene parentage is another strong determinant.

Thread below: (1/11)
Parental origin of transgene modulates amyloid-β plaque burden in the 5xFAD mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease
The 5xFAD transgenic model, popular in Alzheimer’s disease research, exhibits varying cerebral plaque burden depending on the parental source of the transgene. Mice inheriting the transgene paternally...

A bluetorial on ATLS for those who are interested

#MedSky
This weekend I am in Dallas getting my ATLS (advanced trauma life support) certification. Now this is a course I’m actually excited to take and learn from, so I thought you might want me to share!

Follow along here for some tweetucation! (Sorry - no pics allowed)

best bluetorial i've read so far
Bluetorial-A dream and a bit of a nightmare

Serving as Editor-in-Chief at Science was fascinating. I greatly enjoyed working with talented and committed editorial, news, graphics, and production staff. But the inside look into scientific publishing and AAAS was also deeply disillusioning.
