Today is the 449th Anniversary of Black Shuck crashing into the service at St. Mary's Bungay, killing some people and then leaving to scratch the door of Holy Trinity Church Blythburgh.

As today was the Summer Solstice, it must also mean that it's Suffolk Day. So, a few Suffolk steeples for #SteepleSaturday.

First, Blythburgh. Number one in my Suffolk Top 60, though the steeple is not the most interesting thing about it.

For the last Saturday before #Christmas, the awesome, breathtaking ceiling of medieval angels which soar high above you in Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh, Suffolk - the 'Cathedral of the Marshes'

The angels still retain some of their paint colour - incredible 🥰😮

But we don’t just have to rely on eyewitness testimony (renowned though it is for its accuracy, especially at this historical distance), because the church door at Blythburgh still bears scorch and claw marks, known locally as THE DEVIL’S FINGERPRINTS
