For 50 years, Cuba didn't take deportations. Now the Trump admin is dumping elderly Cubans ordered deported decades ago into southern Mexico, many who have been complying with immigration check-ins since before ICE existed.

Reminds me of Cuban exiles. The first to flee in the 1960s were the light skinned professional classes who had the means to leave. By the time of the Mariel boatlift in 1980, the complexion of migration had changed and they received a very different welcome.

the left slept on the consequences of mass emmigration from Cuba over the last decade. it wasn't a second Mariel boatlift getting rid of malcontents and reactionaries, it's demographically unsustainable.
there is basically no convincing evidence for the “capitalism is soon to collapse” theory. American empire, perhaps, but global capitalism will survive that. cuba is one of the last remnants of a system that has failed in most other countries, and facing catastrophic population decline.

I just realized that Trump rants and raves about prisoners being let into the USA because he's a racist but also because that's the opening of Scarface. He's proposing racist policy because he's a racist who thinks Scarface and Silence of the Lambs are factual!
