Everything is Bonapartism part 1000000”0”0

This is actually Bonapartism you’re seizing your own crown and profaning the revolution smdh

Uhhh, say what now?

A major part of the Venezuelan Coup was specifically to petro-choke-out Cuba. However, that's not enough for them?

What the ever loving hell?

I know war is a major way for bonapartism to maintain itself, but JFC this is ridiculous.

Fascism is not reducible to Bonapartism
Engels actually described fascism with startling accuracy about 40 years before Hitler or Mussolini was born, let alone before the word itself existed
Actually, neither Marx nor Engels wrote about fascism.

Bonapartism

1. Napoleon sells Louisiana to the Americans
2. The USA becomes a powerful nation and turns Britain into a junior partner
3. Trump jokes about the reunification of Ireland on his own social network
4. Separatists begin to tear Britain apart

Another Bonapartism Victory

Trumpism, right-wing populism and the Tech Right, together known as the transnational right, represent the translation of #Bonapartism (the earliest instance of fascism) into the language of globalisation and digitalisation, performed as a farce.

"Essentially, he argues it’s not fascism unless it comes from the Bavarian region of Germany in the 1920s, otherwise it’s simply sparkling Bonapartism. This is one of several tediously pedantic observations Jäger makes stemming from a doctrinaire Marxism that checkmates him out of his own argument."
The End of History and the Final Girl
Anton Jäger’s "Hyperpolitics" is, at its best, late marginalia for "The End of History and the Last Man." At its worst, Jäger, like Fukuyama, is a prisoner of his political pieties.

We are closer to that world then you know. The oligarchs are in panic mode, which is what lead to bonapartism, what is leading to this AI driven blindolded rush to the planned obsolesence of the working class, what is leading to trying to speed run the literal destruction of the world.

First off, my operational definition of revolution is the replacement of one system with another, where as what Trump did was gain power within the same system through oligarch supported bonapartism which lead to a quality shift in capitalism.

Not the same thing.

More than a hint of bonapartism in this
The paragraph before seems equally detached from events—this would-be stumper of a question about the Court overturning executive orders is a lot less of a stumper when the executive orders keep violating laws passed by Congress!

Some analysts specifically label Trump 2.0 as “parliamentary Bonapartism” or “patrimonial Bonapartism,” emphasizing the mix of authoritarian executive power and loyalty-based administration.

Why people say “Bonapartism” rather than just “Napoleon”

Scholars and commentators use “Bonapartism” to describe a specific kind of one-person rule that balances above parties and institutions while claiming to embody “the people.”

No, We Definitely Knew How Bad It Would Be
If there’s one phrase I wish I could ban from the American lexicon as of February 2026, it is this: “None of us could have known how bad it would be.” I long ago lost track of how many times I’ve hea...

What is Bonapartism? Why is it important that we recognize it and understand how to defeat it? Hint: Bonapartism is here with us today.

"The Political System of Napoleon III" by Theodore Zeldin.

Short book. I am somewhat of an admirer of Napoleon III compared to many - have a soft spot for actually enlightened despots, especially ones who take real steps towards liberalism. But Bonapartism was fundamentally flawed.

extremely wild for someone to argue that fascism existed in the 19th century and point to Restoration France or the July Monarchy as examples and not, like, Bonapartism lol
August 27, 2026 at 11:29 AM
Let's use the archetypal example of Napoleon III and Bonapartism generally, seen as sort of a proto-fascism. Contrary to French and European antisemitism, Napoleon III advanced Jewish civil rights. Then the leaderless Bonapartists and emergent Boulangist allies turned on Jews in the 1880s.

Fascism has in common with Caesarism and Bonapartism the claim of the leader as the defender of the masses against other corrupt institutions. The equality of all citizens is proclaimed (this was a central part of Nazi ideology) even as citizenship is narrowed.
August 26, 2026 at 9:18 PM
The *reactionary* part in particular is crucially important. Fascism is a 20th century phenomenon. At most you could call some 19th century developments, say Bonapartism, proto-fascist. Projecting fascism two thousand years into the past is completely ridiculous
August 26, 2026 at 3:11 AM
Yeah, Bonapartism is basically coopting revolutionary speech and aesthetics for reactionary ends
