Picked up The Morville Hours by Katherine Swift at The Book Rescuers. About the history of a garden, from ancient times to the current gardener (the author), inspired by books of hours (prayer missals, often illuminated in medieval times, following the seasons of the liturgical year). #BookstoreFind
A book held by a white woman’s hand in front of shelves filled with books. The cover of the book is the main image in the photo. The title is The Morville Hours and the author is Katherine Swift. The main cover image is of a large brick house and formal gardens. The house, with several chimneys and eight visible windows, is in the background, under a blue, cloudless sky. The formal garden stretched from the house to the viewer. There are shaped and trimmed shrubs on either side of the garden. A trellised archway leads from the house to the garden. In the middle of the garden is a long pool of water edged by small trees. In the foreground is a round pool of water with large decorative rocks in the middle. It is surrounded by a circle of flagstones, another circle of cobblestones, and then a low circular hedge. The bottom half of the cover image is framed by blue, white, and dark red flowers that appear to be close to the viewer. Above the cover image is a round arch in blue, gold, and white with the title of the book. The author’s name is in the blue sky framed by the arch. The frame for the main image is white. Two blurbs express how much two readers enjoyed the book. Exterior view of the bookstore. It is a warehouse-type building. On the corrugated blue façade is a red banner with THE BOOK RESCUERS in yellow. Also on the banner are two emblems of the store, designed to suggest fire rescue badges. The walls of the store are corrugated white siding. The doors and windows in front are dark tinted glass. Two big metal donation bins stand by the doors. In white lettering on the glass above the doors and main windows is written PUZZLES KIDS LOCAL ART VHS LOUNGE BOOKS FICTION. On the lower left and right corners of the photo are cars parked in front of the store.

Found at local used bookstore, The Book Rescuers! 1943 Wuthering Heights illus. by Fritz Eichenberg. Pics don’t shy from frenzied violence of story. Originally pubbed in set w/ Jane Eyre. I’ll def be keeping an eye out!

Closed hardback book resting on a cream sheepskin rug. The book has seen some wear. It is a little scuffed and the cover has some browning from age. The spine and an inch-wide vertical strip on the front cover are of gray-green cloth. The rest of the front cover is a large illustration in black and white. To the right is a large, leafless, twisted tree. In full-length profile pressed with his back against the tree is Heathcliff, looking to the cover’s left. His head is thrown back and he is scowling and in the throes of powerful emotion. His long coat is blowing in a strong wind. Clouds suggest a storm. A hardback book opened to the title page, resting on a cream sheepskin rug. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, illustrated with wood engravings by Fritz Eichenberg, New York: Random House Publishers, 1943. Under the author’s name an illustration depicts a leafless, wind-twisted tree bending over a tombstone. A despairing man on all fours, presumably Heathcliff, grieves at the grave. A hardback book, resting on a cream sheepskin rug, opened to a full-page illustration. The illustration depicts Heathcliff digging up Catherine’s grave. It is night. He is standing in the grave to his knees and is holding a shovel. Just behind the shovel is the tombstone where one can read the name Catherine. Heathcliff’s back is to the viewer. The tails of his greatcoat swirl with his movements and he is scowling fiercely at an unseen person or thing to the left.
