Last Friday the Bodleian shut a number of digital resources: Bodleian Incunables, British Booktrade Index, William Godwin's diary, and the Broadside Ballads.

This was done for security reasons,as per this post:

We are sorry to have taken the decision to take this resource offline at short notice. It is a precautionary measure - but the images are available in digital bodleian & the text in the OTA. We are looking at options - but funding to sustain it is a critical issue.

Reminds me of the story from my bestie who had someone sharing her house. My bestie and I are booktrade people. The person sharing her house decided to rearrange all of bestie’s books one day. Like you do not do that to someone else’s books. I believe housemate did it by colour - heinous
"You will be glad to hear that while you were out I took the opportunity to take your record collection out of alphabetical order and rearranged it by genre. You are welcome."

THIS. A few years back, I was reading a feature in a booktrade magazine where a range of indie bookseller were asked what they'd give to people thinking of getting on the game. One was blunt (I paraprase): "Be your own landlord. The mortgage may be terrifying, but it will add years to your life."
Excessive rent and other spiralling costs closes popular cafe.

Commercial landlords seldom feature in the news as a driver of business closures but it’s often their greed that forces business to close. #NZpol

Many thanks for the explanation, @richove.bsky.social. The Humanities Computing and Media Centre at UVic (@uvichcmc.bsky.social, home of The Map of Early Modern London), has downloaded the British Booktrade Index data and is working on spinning up a functional static replacement site.

40 in the booktrade today, here I am in 1987 in my first bookshop, Benns Books. Was so lucky to land that job in 85, after my HSC results were not going to get me into the course I wanted. So lucky to work for Richard, who had known Dylan Thomas, Jan Morris, &had even had a drink with Hemingway.

Seeds available for trade, larger amounts with sunchoke tubers within Canada.
USA, Europe, and possibly other countries I can send smaller amounts, and without larger seeds like corn, peas, and morning glorys

I can also do just book and art swaps

Dunno, 40 years in the booktrade and everyone is still publishing this nonsense. I thought Belle Gibson would be a wake up call. A friend and I were talking about the need for ethics in publishing, I think it’s sorely needed

🤯

Always nice when the collected editions market has a new hit on its hands, and I'm happy to see Marvel chasing these sales with the new Premier format.
