I worked hard all #summer, and I became someone my family might not have recognized, someone I barely recognized myself. I had given Charley my baptismal name in the beginning, and I became known along Cherry Creek as Mary Mac. The child I had been, the willful young Molly, was gone.

Surf Gangs of Penzance Beach opened in 3 weeks, 2 weeks before Halloween.

“Late for a summer show, right?” Caldyr added to her list. “Why?”

Vanth pushed the ledger her way. “Probably it’s that Goodlove Acting Troupe was broker than us. They couldn’t afford theater season.”

This week's #BookishTues theme is #SUMMER.
Though I was born in the summer, it's not my favorite season - lol

We crossed the lake on a #summer day #funded by memories, the boat's #sail taught with the kiss of a warm breeze. Gulls barked at us, but they couldn't interrupt our laughter which rose to the fluffy clouds baking above on that lazy afternoon.

Garden #reprieve. Resting against a thick birch, its soft, peeling #bark like tattered pages of a favorite book. Sun dappled upon the countless #plants like old friends. On the soft breeze floats the perfume of the #flowers, as if they're saying, "It'll be alright."

The memory is clear to me still—the cool air on my face, the soothing sound of the nearby waterfall, the smell of sweet grass and fragrant wild#flowers, Eileen’s soft hand in mine, the broad view of our own fields of vibrant green wheat and barley. #BookishTues #HistoricalRomance

For this week's #BookishTues you can use #FLOWER or #PLANT (or both if you wanted to).

I awake to the rumble of my cat purring, sitting next to me as a sentinel through the night, ensuring my safety so I may feed him come morning. I reach to pet his #fur, but he is already #moving, #embarking on a journey of scant feet, so he is an inch out of reach.

We had an excellent meal of bacon, greens, bread, applesauce, and pie under a brush arbor, but the water was too dirty to drink. The amenities were far from luxurious, but I was content just to stop #moving and fill my unsettled stomach.

I stood frozen remembering my dream. The masks, the voice saying it was time to unmask. The lake was covered in fog, or was the lake made of fog? The city with the strange buildings, the city whose name was in the play? And the ringing of the phone. #BookishTues

An #autumnal breeze brings a brisk scent and the skittering of leaves, blowing my thoughts back to simpler times. Was there anything as satisfying as slapping shut a #flip #phone after making Friday night plans with buddies and the weekend spreading out to eternity?

A feeling straight out of his childhood ripped through him. Mommy. Other kids had fathers. She was all he had, his only anchor. Without her he would be adrift in the world. He couldn’t absorb all the words. He thanked Amy Chandler numbly and let the cell #phone fall from his hand. #BookishTues

The #cathedral ripples in the #moonglade of the pond, a peaceful sway on calm night. A #bird skims the water and the #cathedral shimmers away. I look up and see only the quiet wood around me and shiver.
